The Children Of Jupiter On Tarpeian Rock (2012) - 24" X 36", acrylic on Masonite
In ancient Rome, Tarpeian Rock was an execution site. From Wikipedia: "Murderers, traitors, perjurors, and larcenous slaves, if convicted by the quaestores parricidii, were flung from the cliff to their deaths. Those who had a mental or significant physical disability also suffered the same fate as they were thought to have been cursed by the gods." Offending Romans were thrown from the top of Tarpeian Rock, plummeting 82 feet to their deaths. Eventually, a temple to Jupiter was erected there.
